Tolyltriazole is primarily used for the protection of copper and metal alloys such as brass. Pure tolyltriazole (methylbenzotriazole) is white with no odor. Color and odor are caused by azo dye complexes and free amines that are impurities.

4,5 methyl benzotriazole or “Tolyltriazole” is a mixture of two isomers. Tolyltriazole is used in its acid from (Wintrol T) or more commonly as its sodium salt (Wintrol CT) which has much higher solubilty in aqueous formulations.
